Real Madrid hosted Chelsea at home in the second leg of the quarter-final of the Champions League. The game resulted in Chelsea’s 3-1 leading in regular time, on aggregate 4-4 tie moved the match to the extra-time.
Chelsea started the game fast and took the lead 1-0 with the goal scored by Mason Mount in the 15th minute. The first half ended with a 1-1 tie.
In the second half, Chelsea lead 2-0 with the goal scored by German international Rüdiger and the total score was equalized. (3-3) Another German football player, Timo Werner, increased the lead to 3 in the 75th minute and Chelsea gained a great away advantage.
However, the goal scored by Rodrygo, who was included in the game after 5 minutes, made the score of the first match appear and the match was moved to overtime as there was no more goal in the regular time.
In the first half of the extra time, French striker Karim Benzema, who was the hero of the first match in the 96th minute, reduced the lead to 1 and Real Madrid regained the advantage. There was no other goal in the match and Real Madrid made it to the semi-finals by gaining the advantage in total score without going to penalty shootout. Real Madrid also became the second Spanish team to reach the semi-finals after Villarreal.
