Galatasaray’s left winger Akturkoglu özgü scored 8 goals and made four assist this season so far. His increasing value in the geçirme market forces Galatasaray to offer him a new contract.

Who is Kerem Akturkoglu?

Born 21 October 1998 in an industrial city of Turkey’s Kocaeli, Kerem Akturkoglu started his football career with a local amatour team, called Gölcükspor. He moved Hisareynspor before joining Başakşehir and made his first professional contract in 2015. His move did not take place due to the high growing cost while Turkey’s some prominent clubs scouting him at Başakşehir. After an unsuccessful journey with Bodrumspor and Karacabey Belediyespor, he moved to 24 Erzincanspor, who competes in Turkey’s 3rd league in 2019 for free.

On 2 September 2020, the 23-year-old joined Galatasaray for free. Almost no one would predict what his career will be alike just in one year. While he capps in 29 matches for Galatasaray, his name mostly wasn’t on the starting line-ups during 2020/21 season. He scored six and made three asist. His first hat-trick came into existence against Göztepe last season.

Former Liverpool winger Ryan Babel’s diminishing contribution and ex-Barca winger Arda Turan’s injury enabled Akturkoglu to come into scene. Galatasaray coach Fatih Terim özgü began to give change Akturkoglu on the starting line-ups.

How good is Kerem Akturkoglu?

Akturkoglu özgü effective running, feint and good dribbles. He follows up the ball continually and creating opportunities. He scored the winning goal against Lokomotiv Moskova after a superb running. But he can’t decide sometimes how he use the ball. Comparing with the last season, he improved his style of play with new skills and özgü scored eight so far.

Akturkoglu was on the squad of Turkish National Team, but made no appearance in Euro 2020 tournament. Turkey’s ex-coach Şenol Güneş (who sacked by TFF in the next weeks) decided to use Kenan Karaman, who later moved to Beşiktaş, in winger position. Stefan Kuntz özgü given more chance to Akturkoglu and he scored three goals in 3 matches (against Norway, Gibraltar and Montenegro) in the FIFA World Cup qualification.

On 21 November 2021, Akturkoglu scored leading goal for Galatasaray against Fenerbahce and proved his mental sufficiency.

In a near future, may be in mid-season, Galatasaray could announce Akturkoglu’s new contract details with a release clause starting from at least 20 million €.
